Deron & Carlos Aim for the Gold

June 25th, 2008 by Jay

Although most people were pretty optimistic that the Jazz’s stars Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer would be named to this summer’s USA Olympic roster, on Monday, it was made official.

As a Jazz fan, this is very exciting for many reasons. First, and least important, it reminds us of the “glory” days back when our very own Stockton and Malone were a big part of the original Dream Team in 1992, and again on The Dream Team 2 in 1996. Second, we all know how Read the rest of this entry »

The Jazz Junkies has “borrowed” the numbers provided by Hoops Hype to compile this spreadsheet detailing the Utah Jazz current and future contract situations.  You can view which players are under contract and for how long, and approximately what each player is set to earn for the remainder of their contract.  Be sure to click the picture though, because it is just a screenshot of the whole spreadsheet, which includes totals, a key, and more years.

D-Will In For Sure?

June 18th, 2008 by Jay

News yesterday came that Pistons guard Chauncey Billups withdrew from consideration for the U.S. Olympic roster.  I haven’t seen any official statements, but word is that it’s personal reasons (maybe family related).    Common consensus was that the Olympic committee would choose Read the rest of this entry »

D-Will & Boozer on USA Olympic Team?

June 15th, 2008 by Jay

Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer both have a decent, if not very good chance of making the Final Roster of this summer’s 2008 USA Olympic team.

Originally, there was supposed to be a mini-camp in Las Vegas later this month (June) with about 16 players as a “try-out” before they announced the Final 12-man roster. However, Jerry Colangelo has announced that they will scrap the mini-camp and announce the 12-man roster around June 22, before the team reports to Las Vegas to begin workouts on June 28. The team has until July 1 to file the final roster.

Last summers Olympic Qualifying roster included: Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, Dwight Howard, Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, Michael Redd, Mike Miller, Tyson Chandler, Tayshaun Prince and Deron Williams.

Carlos Boozer was invited but was unable to attend because of health issues with his son. Also, speculation says Read the rest of this entry »

NBA to Fine FLOPPERS

June 15th, 2008 by Jay

For those of you who get a little ill every time Kobe flails his arms and screams at the slightest contact, or hate watching Ginobili launch himself backwards when taking a nudge from an offensive player, there is hope!

Ginobili whining to the ref

Or for those who remember the King of Flops, Vlade Divac throwing himself around sans any contact at all, the NBA has decided to begin fining floppers beginning next season. They haven’t established how much the fine will be yet, or whether it will be an escalating offense that could lead to suspensions like Technical Fouls are. It sounds like the in-game observers and video reviewers will report theatrical flops as part of the post-game report, and said player will be fined. Read the rest of this entry »

Should the Jazz trade Harpring?

June 14th, 2008 by Ben

With Harpring undergoing surgery to replace two bone spurs in his right ankle, some Jazz fans like myself are questioning his age and his future use for the Jazz… So with that, comes the question: Should the Jazz trade Matt Harpring??

The Pros of the trade are as follows:  He is aging as the oldest player on the Jazz at 32, he has a bum knee that has bothered him as of recent years, recent ankle surgery means possible more injuries to come, spotty play meaning that some games he is excellent and others not so much… and the list could go on…

As for the Cons of trading Matt Harpring:
