Ben’s Rocky Mountain Revue Analysis Part 2

August 5th, 2008 by Ben

I am sorry that I could not post this part sooner.  Due to working and travel I have not even had a spare moment.  Also wanted to apologize about all of the spelling and grammatical errors in the last post.  I wrote that post at around 2 a.m…. so needless to say I was not thinking straight.

As for the 2nd Analysis of the Rocky Mountain Revue, here we go!!

Earl Calloway from Indiana (Rookie)

Calloway was one of my favorite players at this year’s RMR.  Man!, could this guy hustle.  He seemed to run around the court with great ferver like he really had something to prove.  In the two nights that I was there, he had several steals and was very quick to the ball.  Calloway also had great passing skills.  Most of his passes were quick and right to the receiver.  As for the negative side, the Jazz are not in any need right now of a Point Guard or a Shooting Guard.  We are so stacked at these positions that it would seem asinine to sign him.  Ben’s Opinion:  Although I really liked this guy and he was one of my favorite players to watch, the Jazz really don’t have a need for this player.  Good hustle though!

Yaroslav Korelev from Russia (2 yrs)

This former 12th pick by the Clippers has a lot of potential.  Korelev has one of the cleanest and best shots at the RMR.  He squares up well with the basket and has a solid stroke when he is shooting.  One key attribute (that the Jazz need) is that he is a great defender.  Although is he 6′9″ and still a little too skinny, I saw him post up against several large players and play excellent defense.  Also he was very quick on his feet and always ready to go the basket with a player while playing defense.  My only negative opinion about this player is that he needs to gain some weight.  He will be bounced around too much while trying to contend with players in the NBA.  Ben’s Opinion:  I think that we should keep him.  He needs to gain some weight in order to compete in the NBA, but I really do see this guy being a great contributer to the Jazz.

Hiram Fuller from Fresno State (1 yr)

I really don’t have too much to say as far as this player goes.  One attribute that I liked about him is his willingness to get a rebound.  At 6′9″, he is not one of the tallest out there by a long shot, but he was still able to pull down several rebounds.  Fuller also was tough when down-low driving to the hoop, but unfortunately didn’t make many of his shots.  As for the negative side, He really doesn’t have a lot of talent to contribute to the Jazz or the NBA for that matter.  Good luck in Europe… Ben’s Opinion:  Go to Europe, you’ll do great there!

And last and definitely very least…

Kosta Koufos from Ohio State (Rookie)

I have a feeling that Koufos struggles with a common disease called H.I.A.S. or other wise known as Head In Ass Syndrome.  Watching him play at the RMR was painful to say the very least.  Everytime he touched the ball, he fumbled it around in one way or another.  He was slow, and had terrible shot.  According to my notes from Day 1, he air-balled the basket twice.  So…  um… what the hell happened here with this guy?!.  I did watch video of him from when he played for Ohio State, and he was pretty talented.  Ben’s Opinion:  I really think Koufos is a Head-Case.  He needs to not be so nervous when he plays.  I really think he must of had something on his mind, because his head was not in Salt Lake, or Utah for that matter during the Revue.  Lots of work needs to be done for Koufos to impress not only me as a fan, but Utah as a whole.

RMR wrap-up and final analysis coming soon.. Definitely sooner than last time in between posts…
